Celebrating the Milestones of Luna XT™ Inaugural Surgeries

Celebrating the Milestones of Luna XT™ Inaugural Surgeries

Luna XT™ is GC Aesthetics® most recent innovation, the first breast implant approved under the latest Medical Device Regulation (MDR)¹.

As the Luna XT™ breast implant is now available in selected European markets, we look back at two of the inaugural surgeries with Luna XT™ micro-textured anatomical breast implant, performed by Dr. Lo Russo and Dr. Di Vincenzo, in Italy.

Dr. Di Vincenzo's Perspective on Luna XT™

Dr. Di Vincenzo (@dottorantoniodivincenzo) is a plastic surgeon with over 30 years of experience, recognized for his expertise in anatomical implant procedures. He currently leads innovative courses on additive mastoplasty with GCA® anatomical implants, consolidating his status as a pioneer in the field in Italy.

He provided us valuable insights into Luna XT™ through an in-depth questionnaire facilitated by GCA® Italy.

What characteristics would you highlight regarding Luna XT™?

The cohesivity of the gel stabilizes the margins and reduces the possibility of rippling.

What are your considerations when placing microtextured implants when doing a breast surgery?

Being micro-textured, they slide better. However, due to their greater compactness (less soft than CoGel™), in the case of small areolas, the insertion is slightly more complicated.

What is your overall satisfaction with the surgery you have performed with Luna XT™?

Very satisfied as the results appear more performing and aesthetically beautiful.

Do you believe that anatomically microtextured implants can strike a favorable balance between achieving a natural appearance and ensuring safety?

I would say that it's exactly what we surgeons were expecting from the company.

What specific advantages have you seen, if any, when using Luna XT™ implants in breast surgery compared to other implants?

The anatomical shape of Luna XT™is, in my opinion, better performing and closer to the shape of a natural breast than other implants. For example, the projection, especially in the center of the lower pole, is very appealing.

Can you highlight any key advancements or innovations in Luna XT™ technology that you find particularly beneficial for achieving optimal surgical outcomes?

The greater cohesivity of the gel improves the results in the case of ptosis and a narrow lower pole.

What similarities or differences does Luna XT™ have vs other GCA® anatomical implants?

Greater consistency of the gel makes the edge more homogeneous and less exposed to rippling.

Would you recommend Luna XT™ to other surgeons? / How likely would you recommend Luna XT to other surgeons?

Absolutely yes! I would recommend it without any doubt.

Dr. Lo Russo's Perspective on Luna XT™

Dr. Lo Russo (@dr.giulialorusso) specializes in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and works in Florence at the Day Surgery Center Maurizio Bufalini. With extensive experience in breast, abdominal, facial, and genital surgery, encompassing oncological, post-oncological, post-traumatic, and malformative cases, Dr. Lo Russo’s background greatly shows her approach to aesthetic medicine and surgery.

Dr. Lo Russo also provided us insights into Luna XT™ through an in-depth questionnaire facilitated by GCA® Italy.

What characteristics would you highlight regarding Luna XT™?

These implants are softer, and at the same time, they maintain their stability.

What are your considerations when placing microtextured implants when doing a breast surgery?

They are less rough. We doctors are also interested in safety, and the microtexture leads us in this direction.

What is your overall satisfaction with the surgery you have performed with Luna XT™?

I really love breast augmentation, and my sensation with this implant, even if it is the beginning, is very nice, and I feel grateful to be able to use it.

Do you believe that anatomically microtextured implants can strike a favorable balance between achieving a natural appearance and ensuring safety?

Yes, I really trust in this. In my practice, I use 90% anatomical implants, so Luna XT™ allows me to improve safety.

What specific advantages have you seen, if any, when using Luna XT™ implants in breast surgery compared to other implants?

Comparing them with other implants, I found them softer while I implant them, and the result is also natural and nicer at the one-month post-op.

Can you highlight any key advancements or innovations in Luna XT™ technology that you find particularly beneficial for achieving optimal surgical outcomes?

I think that the posterior side is more rigid than the anterior one. This can be the reason why they are soft and stable at the same time.

What similarities or differences does Luna XT™ have vs other GCA® anatomical implants?

Probably the posterior side is more rigid, like the other GCA® implants and the anterior is softer.

Would you recommend Luna XT™ to other surgeons? / How likely would you recommend Luna XT™ to other surgeons?

I sincerely recommend trying them, but of course, I think that we need to have a longer follow-up.
